Settling disputes : conflict resolution in business, families, and the legal system
Linda Singer
Singer, a lawyer and practicing mediator, surveys the burgeoning field of alternative dispute resolution (ADR). She examines areas in which mediation has been most prominently employed to keep conflicts out of court, including family, business, employment, and community disputes. In addition to presenting information about specific ADR programs, both public and private, Singer summarizes the findings of some of the major evaluative studies. Although Singer is an advocate of ADR, she acknowledges its lack of success to date in attracting much voluntary business and thus in significantly lessening dependence on the courts.
